Personal Integrity, Keeping Commitments to Yourself.
It’s 7:30 AM and I’ve been working for two and one half hours already this morning. As I’m writing this at it’s already 75 degrees and I’m using all of my skills including positive self talk and deep breathing to not throw my printer out of the second story window of my office, LoL The humidity is causing all of the paper to stick together and it jams up about every 3rd copy. When it’s this humid, there is not much you can do.
The other day I was discussing the concept, maybe a new concept for some of you, “Integrity with yourself.” I first learned about this concept from the business and marketing guru Dan Kennedy. Dan talks about how when he puts something into he planner for the day, he does not go to sleep until he has completed everything he’s put on his calendar.
As we discussed the concept, it turned out that the concept was quite new to most of the people at the table. Now the people engaged in this discussion with me were successful business people. People with integrity who’s word is gold. If they make a commitment you can take it to the bank that they will keep it. Including their commitments to themselves.
This was something that I learned from my many years In taekwondo, that the most successful people, the truly grandest of masters had the strongest sense of integrity, including their commitments to themselves.
When I put anything on my schedule it is a commitment and keeping my commitments to myself is as important to me as my commitments to others.
This started me thinking about how people set goals for themselves and why some people seem to accomplish more that others. One of the things that I noticed was that some the most successful people were as committed to themselves as they were to others.
Let me give an example to maybe make this clearer. Someone will decide that they are going to get into better shape, maybe before the summer is over. But they never consider what they are willing to give up in order to accomplish this task. If you decide to get in shape that means you need at least an hour per day of time for working out, that is without travel time if your going to a gym or to the park to do cardio.
Setting the goal of getting in shape requires finding at least 1-2 hours per day, three to five days per week to workout. So when setting this goal, what are you willing to eliminate from your life in order to steal these 5-10 hours per week. Maybe it’s less time at the coffee shop, or less time with friends.
In any case, there is a choice that has to be made and in order to achieve this goal you’re personal integrity has to be so strong that you’ll do whatever it takes to keep this commitment to yourself.
My friend Nancy gets up every morning at 5 to run in the park, spring, summer or snowstorm. Nancy will go home earlier than everyone else on an evening out, in order to get out of bed @ 5AM. Her commitment to her own personal health and fitness is equal to her commitments to others, not more but equal.
So when you're setting a new goal for yourself, making a commitment to yourself, it is important to first decide what you are willing and going to have to give up in order to reach this goal. And then as you consider this new goal, and the ones you have set in the past, think about how much honor you’ve shown to yourself, how integrous you’ve been to yourself?
Do you honor your word, to yourself as much as you honor your word to others? If not that when would NOW be a good time to start? This doesn’t mean that you neglect other or don’t keep your commitment to them. It means that you are as true to your word to yourself is you are your word to others.
People are often quite willing to say yes or commit to things that they’d really rather not be doing or committed to. In order to be successful as a goal setter you’ve got to learn another new concept that goes hand-in-hand with the concept of personal integrity. The concept of saying “NO.” When someone asks for a favor or help of some sort, you need to start thinking, what do I have to give up in order to keep this commitment or do this favor.
The bible say’s “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The presupposition is that you love yourself first. Without this self love, it is impossible to do your best for others. Like the bible the airline stewardesses say “in case of a drop in pressure a mask will drop down, put the mask on yourself first, before helping those around you.” This is personal integrity. Now some of you are saying that when I set a goal, or make a commitment I “intend” to keep it, but life gets in complicated, in the way sometimes.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming was developed as a method of modeling excellence! There are many skills that can be used to help you make better decisions, including goal setting strategies that include creating “well formed outcomes” as well as decisions strategies and time management strategies. Well that’s it for this month, it is 8:00 AM and my schedule says “Back Exercises” and I’ve got to keep my commitments to myself.

Change your sub-modalities and change your world? — IT’s ALL N.L.P.Did you try the experiment we recommended last month? Lets try a different but similar experiment this month.
Remember a time in the past when you felt happy, a specific incident. Not the location in your mind of this image: upper right, upper left, later right, lateral left, lower right, lower left, upper middle, eyelevel middle, or lower middle. Next note the size of this remembered image.
Is the memory black and white or color?
Is it a still picture or a movie?
Is there a border around the image or does it just end?
How far away is this mental image, close enough to touch or far away?
Are you associated, looking through your eyes or disassociated, do you see yourself in the memory?
Associated with this remembered mental image is a feeling in your body that is described as happiness (I said to choose a happy memory). Just pay attention to the location in your body of the feelings of happiness and their movements. More about the movements of feelings at a later date.
Now lets play a little.
The first sub-modality we’re going to play with is that size of the image. Take this image in your memory and if it is small, make it bigger, if it is big make it bigger than that or try making it smaller. Just play with the size of the image and notice how it either makes the feelings of happiness either better or not as good. Then return to the original size.
Next is the image black and white or color? Whichever it is reverse it and notice if that makes the feelings better or not as good. Return to the original color.
Next is it a movie or still picture? Whichever it is try the opposite and notice the change in feeling. Return to the original.
Continue changing each sub-modality and noticing the effects that changing them have on the feelings. What you may notice if you continue experimenting this way is that there is one sub-modality that when changed changes the whole memory. That is the sub-modality that we’re looking for.
Next month we’re going to continue playing with sub-modalities and how you can use them to change a memory.
Soba Cabbage Salad
This is another amazing recipe from the book The pH Miracle for Weight Loss by Dr. Robert 0. Young.
This is an amazing summer salad that I fell in love with. The challenge was to not eat the whole salad at one sitting.
Maybe this is not new to you but I’ve just discovered the Idea of using grapefruit juice in salad dressings. I just freaking love it.
Sometimes I’ll just make a salad and mix some grapeseed oil, grapefruit juice and a dash of stevia. Just simple and sooooooooooooo good. Well, give this one a try and enjoy.
1 head of cabbage, chopped
4 green onions, chopped.
2 Tbs. sesame seeds, toasted.
3/4 cup of chopped almonds, toasted.
1Tbs. Grapeseed oil.
1/2 package of soba noodles.
Chop the cabbage and mix with green onions. Place sesame seeds and chopped almonds in a pan and gently toast on medium heat adding the grapeseed oil after they’ve started to toast.
At the same time, Bring soba noodles that have been broke into bite sized pieces and water to a boil and boil for 4-5 minutes.
Mix the cabbage, seeds and noodles together in another bowl and then add in dressing.
Dressing: Made in another bowl though I usually use a 2 cup measuring cup.
1/2 cup of grapeseed oil.
1 medium grapefruit juiced.
3 tbs. of Innerlite dehydrated vegetable mix.
1/2 tsp of salt.
Dash of stevia or to taste.

Many times when he felt anxious, stressed or insecure, he would light up one so he could feel cool again, (this is known as accidental self-hypnosis). In order to deal with his smoking issue, we had to allow the other than conscious ® mind to come up with other ways of dealing with stress that did not include tobacco.
By reuniting the part that wanted to be smoke free and the part that dealt with emotions, stress and anxiety through smoking we created a part that would allow this gentleman to be smoke free and still feel the emotional well being that he received from tobacco . . .
